April Snow 1-6 2014

Well its been a very busy April for us!!!  The weekend started with our friend Jeff Wilby, being rushed to the emergency room because he thought he was having a heart attack.  It all started when he was driving a Praxair truck and became dizzy and short of breath.  He was smart enough to pull over and called 911.  After 7 days in the hospital, they concluded he did not have a heart attack.  Not sure what he has but he will never be able to drive a work truck again....bad news for him and his career at Praxair.  I think his family is relieved he didn't have a heart attack and just a bit worried he will never work again.  We love you Wilby family!!!

April 1 we had 2.5 inches of snow here in Enfield, CT.  Crazy.  Most places is melted the same day...not in Enfield.  I came home from work and had to shovel.  By the time I got home from work the next day, the snow was gone!!  Weird, snow in April!!!

Stephen spent the week in Chicago working...lots going on with his new job!  I had a busy week here in CT with house showing every other day and the opening of the golf course!  Everyone has the winter itch so we have been slammed at St. Anne Country Club!!  Its good seeing all the returning members!

After picking Stephen up from the airport, we spent the weekend in the yard trying to get all the leaves picked up.  It wasn't the warmest day, but at least no snow or rain!!  The yard and garden look decent and we got our Koi pond going. Have crocus and tulips coming up...didn't know because they were all buried under leaves.   Had a few sightings of Myrtle the Turtle and all our Koi survived the long, cold winter!!  After the outside work, we spent a few hours on the inside preparing for an open house.  I sometimes feel like I cheated because I made cookies right before the open house...the house smelt like freshly cooked cookies!!  We had 16 groups attend the open house.  Keeping our fingers crossed for a bid!!!

Next week is busy busy busy...both of us working lots of hours and we have a robotics scrimmage in Boston!!!

Hartford District Robotics Event March 29-30 2014

Team photo
It was our second district went with Aces High 176 and this time it was in Hartford, CT..close to home!  You can check out all our awards, scores and rankings at: http://www.thebluealliance.com/team/176
Day 1
After the first long day, we are left Hartford at 8pm. So far we have played 9 of our qualifying matches. After replaying one of our matches at the very end of the night we are ranked 2nd in a field of 39 teams. The competition is very competitive and intense. We still have deliberations to determine our alliance selections for tomorrow. After which point we rest up for another early morning. Qualification rounds begin at 9:30am.
Day 2
After the last Quals, Team 176 was Rank 5 with a record of 12-6-0
Watch out Hartford... We have a "HOT" alliance. 175(Buzz), 839 (Rosie), 176 this is an amazing alliance with all teams local! Unfortunately our alliance was not strong enough and after another challenging day we were knocked out in the semifinals.
However we received the "IMAGERY AWARD".
This recognizes that we integrated the symbols and spirit of our team seamlessly
and consistently. This was shown by the machining of the ACES symbols within the

very structure of the machine and the printing of our own t-shirts.This was a note from Mr. Pease about our point status!!
Our robot Ms. Stacy

Hi All

Great Job in Hartford!

We have not officially qualified for Boston, but the lowest we can fall after Maine is 10th and 55 teams are going to Boston, so we are going. The cost is $100 payable from your fundraising, due the 2nd of April. This applies to chaperones too, it is a deep discount. The dates are April 10-12, we will be leaving the shop at 5 AM. Arrive at 430 to help pack.

Looking ahead to World Championships: We will be using some grant money to help but the trip will be expensive. Set aside at least $300. Again this applies to everyone, it will be a deep discount. We will not know if we are going until April 12. We would be leaving April 23 and returning April 26 or 27 depending on flight availability. I have set the team size limit for St Louis at 26.

Here are our chances: We carry our points into Boston and need to finish in the top 18-24 depending on where the automatic award teams land in the standings. The points in Boston will be tripled, so 6 pts for each qual win and 20 pts for each level of elimination's won. We keep improving, and so does everyone else. Most of the less capable robots will not be playing in Boston so the qualifications will be like the elims and the elims will be very competitive. Another robot award would also help our standing so keep telling those judges how great we and our robot are!

There is no bag time before Boston or St Louis. All repairs need to be planned for, the agenda is below. We are giving ourselves 3 hours to get there, so we should have the whole morning to get ready.

We will discuss scouting, spirit and robot at the meeting. Also if we need a meeting next Wednesday or need to go to bed early

Go Aces High 176

We love you and miss you Kay!

Week in Chicago House Hunting March 10-14 2014

We started the week off by flying in on Saturday night (4/8/14) and visiting with the Zaehringers and Mom and Dad Wassmer at a hotel close to Marty and Julies.  Sunday was the baptism with a lunch that followed.  It was so good seeing all the nieces and nephews together.  I'm a proud godmother of Alexis and Emery!!!  After the luncheon, Mom, Dad, Stephen and I traveled back to Merrillville IN where we stayed for the week to house hunt.  Monday and Tues Mom, Dad and I looked at 25 houses.  We all made little notes on the ones we liked!  Mom and Dad had to leave Tues night so Stephen and I discussed which ones we like best. On Thurs, Stephen took the day off work and we re-evaluated about 8 houses and found one we liked and placed a bid.

While in Indiana for a week, poor Stephen worked everyday which gave me time to visit with some of my friends.  One night we had diner with Barbie and Scott.  Another night, the day Stephen had to work 22hrs, I went out with my girl friends from Merrillville Animal Hospital.  Its was so good seeing those girls!! Also had lunch with Tony and Marcy-whom set me up with an interview with Allstate!  During this busy week, we also had 3.5 inches of snow....crazy!!
Well, the offer is placed!!  Hopefully the owners of Justice Street will accept our offer so just maybe, we might have a new home!! http://www.coldwellbankeronline.com/property/details/3429858/MLS-342354/1534-Justice-Dr-Crown-Point-IN-46307.aspx?SearchID=18748689&RowNum=1&StateID=20&RegionID=0&IsRegularPS=True&IsSold=False

Saturday 4/15/14, we were suppose to head to downtown Chicago with Tony and Mary for the Chicago St. Patty's Day Parade.  We had been many times before and had always had a great time!  I was so excited to "get my green on"!!  However that evening we had a call from Phyllis and Kay Courter had passed.  He had been sick for about a year and was getting on a list for a lung transplant but never made it.  He had a blood clot in his leg get loose and lodged itself in his heart.  Our St. Patty's Day Saturday was spent re-scheduling our plane tickets, car rental and driving to St. Louis to be with Cody and Phyllis!!

Emery Hope Wassmer Baptism 3/9/14

Our week end started off by flying to Chicago on a Saturday night and staying with the Zaehringers, Mom and Dad at a hotel close to Marty and Julies house.  Carter and Marty visited so the kids swam in the pool at the hotel.  We ordered pizza and everyone headed off to bed for Emery's exciting next day!
Emery Hope Wassmer was born on 1/22/14.  She was baptized on 3/9/14 at Wheatland Salem Church in Naperville, IL.  I was given the honor of God Mother!  I couldn't be more excited!  Love you Emery Hope Wassmer.  Cant wait to watch you grow up into a beautiful young woman!

After the baptism we headed to Marty and Julies house for lunch and family pictures.  We had a wonderful day and it was wonderful seeing Emery for the first time!!

After a long day, Stephen, mom, dad and I headed to Merrillville IN for the week in search of a new home!

UNH District Robotic Event 3/7-3/9

University of New Hampshire
This competition was located at the beautiful college of New Hampshire. Aces
High was very successful at this competition with coming in first place overall
for the highest scored points and second place in the alliances. Aces High had
won all but one match throughout Thursday and Friday up until the final matches.
Our autonomous was successful for every match except for one of our matches in
the semi finals and one of our matches in the finals. Our robot went all the way
and was in an alliance with team 131 and 3597 during the finals. We had won our
first match but then lost our next two matches causing the other alliance to win
the competition. We had some troubles with our robot throughout the competition
with our arm not picking up the robot but we didn't stop fighting through it.
Aces High used all the great minds of our team to fix the troubles and be able
to make the robot able of picking up and shooting balls at amazing accuracy. We
also had a specific sign that the human player used to let the drive team know
when they were at a correct spot to shoot. Our human player would focus on the
robot and when it was located at the correct distance from the shooting targeted
goal, he would fly his hands up in a sign of "GOAL!" Our whole team in the
stands decided that it would show good team spirit and support for our team to
participate with the human player. in other words, every time the human player
would put his hands up in the air, so would everyone else on our team in the
stands. We would all stand up and put our hands up and cheer. Aces High is not
several different students focusing on different things. We are a team, a
family, that works as a unit and supports and cheers for everyone not the team
for our best results. Our team not only spent all our time at the competition,
but we also had a new favorite diner to visit, which we visited for two
breakfasts and two dinners. It gave us a time to spend with each other and talk
about not only the competition but other things that brought us closer as a
team. Aces High understands that to work together, we have to understand each
other and know each other and our trip to the University of New Hampshire gave
our team that chance. Even though we didn't win the competition in its whole, we
tried our hardest and scored an amazing amount of points. Aces High also did
amazingly for the chairmans award. We were scored exceptionally excellent for
everything about our presentation and our outreach. Overall, Aces High went to
UNH and gave it our all and succeeded. We did what we want and can't wait to go
to Hartford regional and play our hardest again.
Ciera Tseka
WOW!!! Wish everyone could have made the UNH trip. You made one amazing robot. We were 11 and 1 in qualifications for number 1 seed and ended up Finalists and winners of a very well earned Motorola Quality Award.

FTC is competing today in Westport and I will forward the results to the whole team as soon as I know them. They are playing for a chance to go to St Louis. Go Aces High Too!!!

 1. Our performance earned us enough points to almost guarantee a spot at the district championships in Boston so plans need to be made for that. Also the top 16 point earners (Not including the 14 automatic qualifiers) in New England will go to St Louis, so we should look ahead to that as it approaches.

It was a busy three days but the team did well!!
Our Robot is named Ms. Stacy!!

Our trophies for Quality award and Second place in the event.  Way to go Aces High 176!!
