Week Three Aces High 176 Robotics Jan 20-26 2014

Yet again another busy week.  Everyone seems so busy and the shop is always a mess, but we don't have much of a robot together yet...its making me nervous!  The Suffield Shakedown Scrimmage is in full swing.  FIRST is going to supply us with the official 2014 field...Yeah!  Now we done have to worry about making it but now have the task of transporting 11 boxes that are huge!!!  We will get it done!!  Also found out a few parents from last year are going to return for the scrimmage to help!  I was excited that Kim Cogden was one of them...she passed the scrimmage torch to me!  Anxious to see and prototype a robot!!!  Check us out:

Week One of build season Aces High 176 Jan 2014

Its been a busy week (about 32 hours a week)...planning, drawing, designing, testing, configuring...sort of found a prototype for our design.  Trying to put all the pieces together to come up with the most effective, resilient robot for the season!

The scrimmage is coming along.  Found out the FIRST would not be able to provide us with the field like in scrimmages past.  So, if we want to have a scrimmage, we will have to make a field.  Stephens duties have now been shifted to help create and build a field we may use.  Things are coming together for the scrimmage, but unfortunately this year our profit margins will be zero or in the red because of the field build!!!  Cant wait to see what Feb brings!!!  The students are busting their butts to make this scrimmage a success!!!

Busy building the field
Robot salvage!

Other Mentors

Aces High 176 also has a FTC team this year.
FTC is designed for students in grades 7-12 to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using a variety of languages. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
Our FTC team is called Aces High Too!  What a great group of kids in this group.  They have their first scrimmage Jan 18, 2014  We wish them the best of luck!!!

Boyfriend always finds time to melt my heart...here he is laying in the sun on a cold windy day!  I had the front door open during one of my insanity workouts!!!  Love my fur kid!!

Aces High 176 Robotic Season Kick off Jan 4, 2014

This years robotic kick off was another success.  This Saturday we learned what the new game would be...they call it Aerial Assist!  http://www3.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/2014-game  basicly
AERIAL ASSIST is played by two competing Alliances of three Robots each on a flat 25’ x 54’ foot field, straddled by a lighting truss suspended just over five feet above the floor. The objective is to score as many balls in goals as possible during a 2 minute and 30 second match. The more Alliances score their ball in their goals, and the more they work together to do it, the more points their alliance receives.
The match begins with one 10-second Autonomous Period in which robots operate independently of driver. Each robot may begin with a ball and attempt to score it in a goal. Alliances earn bonus points for scoring balls in this mode and for any of their robots that move in to their zones. Additionally, each high/low pair of goals will be designated “hot” for five seconds, but the order of which side is first is randomized. For each ball scored in a “hot” goal, the Alliance earns additional bonus points.
For the rest of the match, drivers remotely control robots from behind a protective wall.  Once all balls in autonomous are scored, only one ball is re-entered in to play, and the Alliances must cycle a single ball as many times as possible for the remainder of the match. With the single ball, they try to maximize their points earned by throwing balls over the truss, catching balls launched over the truss, and scoring in the high and low goals on the far side of the field.

Stephens been busy designing parts and a field for our scrimmage Feb 15, 2014.  I am in charge of all media venues-Aceshigh0176 -http://instagram.com/aceshigh0176You can also follow us at:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AcesHigh176Twitter - https://twitter.com/AcesHigh176Gmail    aceshigh0176@gmail.com e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
